TEAK WOOD

Teak wood, due to its qualities, has a good reputation in the international market.

Such qualities are:
MODERATE WEIGHT (650 Kg/m3), located between cedar and mahogany.

GOOD RESISTANCE in relation to its weight, having mechanical characteristics superior to mahogany, ideal therefore for the furniture industry.

DECORATIVE PROPERTIES: The patterns of its wood are of particular beauty and sophistication.

STABILITY — It does not twist out of shape and contracts very little during the drying process, being insensible also to the variations of humidity in the environment.

ENDURANCE — Its duramen is impervious to termites and other insects, being immune to the fungus that cause wood to rotten; it can be buried, exposed to weather or to sea water without need of treatments.
Its alburnum (the layer between the duramen and the bark) offers all the qualities of the alburnum, except as to endurance, and can be used with no restrictions for internal works. For a longer exposition to the weather it requires the use of a preserving product; such treatment is easy to apply, due to the alburnum´s permeability.

As it contains a kind of latex, teak wood absorbs little water and lubricates the metallic surfaces that penetrate it. Therefore it presents reduced abrasion, a characteristic that confers it resistance to acids and protects the iron (of nails and screws) from corrosion.
It can be sawed, planed, smoothed and perforated without difficulty. It practically doesn’t split or crack and allows for a neat finishing
In spite of its oily surface,
it is easy to glue.
